Collaboration amongst Nepalese IT companies/entrepreneurs for creating a strong IT industry in nepal
Bibhusan Bista, Kathmandu Nepal - bibhsuan AT yipl DOT com DOT np
Target Audience: IT Entrepreneurs, Managers, IT Enthusiasts, Anyone Interested
Description:
Since 1990s, Nepal had companies and entrepreneurs working in the field of software development and Information Technology. However, the progress that we have made as IT Industry so far is next to nothing. Most of the companies that we have in the country are of small scale (employing less than 15 staff) and only 3-4 companies employ more than 100 staff. Because of this factor, the work that we do is of smaller scale in general. However, if we really want growth, we should target big - bigger projects, bigger clients and quality work. Unless we achieve this, our industry is not going to be mature and we will not see international companies choosing Nepal as their offshore development station due to its competitive advantage. In this context, there is a need for companies and entrepreneurs of Nepal to collaborate. Even if we lack resources as an individual company to grow, collaboration amongst multiple can surely be our strength. Small scale and medium scale companies can form alliance amongst each other on need basis and take advantage of individual strengths. We need to learn to collaborate - collaborate for the benefit of individual companies and IT industry as a whole.
In this session, we can try to see what kind of collaboration is possible, the current situation, opportunities, etc
Time Duration: 60min (15 mins presentation (tone setting rather) followed by 45 mins open discussion)

Promoting Nepali Changemaker in the world
Saurav Dhakal, www.nepalinfopark.com.np, Kathmandu Nepal - nepalinfopark AT gmail DOT com
Target Audience: All
Description:
The idea is aimed at highlighting those people who have helped improve the quality of life of Nepalese people, through their efforts, and have become inspirational figure themselves in the society
Backed by this idea, we have started our venture of making a film on Mahabir Pun who along with his team has installed wireless Internet terminals in a remote village of Nepal using simple Wi-Fi equipments to add the color of technology to the lives of rural people of Nepal.
Our documentary will introduce people around the world to Nepal and to Mahabir, and specifically track Mahabir and his team, from beginning to end, as they install a wireless networking system in a remote Nepalese village. (Thus far, 35 such systems have been erected in remote villages resting within the foothills of the Himalayas). Our purpose in making the documentary is to inspire ordinary people to believe that they, too, can bring meaningful social change. A portion of the profits from the film will go towards funding Mahabir’s projects.
Time Duration: We have finished the production of a 32-min documentary on Mahabir Pun. This is our introductory film to give an essence of Mahabir and his work that has made a huge impact among the people of Nangi, a beautiful village in Western Nepal where Internet technology has been made accessible to people on Mahabir's effort.

An analysis of twitter
Tushar Neupaney,Kathmandu,Nepal tushar DOT neupaney AT gmail DOT com
Description:
Microblogging is a new form of communication in which users describe their current status in short posts distributed by instant messages, mobile phones, email or the Web. I present my observations of the microblogging phenomena about a product (here, google) by studying the properties of the social network in Twitter, one of the most popular microblogging systems. I find that people use microblogging primarily to talk about their daily activities and to seek or share information. These information are valuable to companies who have to present their products based upon them.

Stand for it
chandani lama beatle_kt AT hotmail DOT com
Description:
The main idea of this session is to let the little minds bloom...i just want people to be open and share what is inside them. organizing talk programes, art and painting competitions, nature walks, essay writings etc may help in bringing them out because there are many people who have different unique thoughts in their mind about making a difference, but the fact is- they don't speak up. their views and ideas mean a lot, everyone have their own opinions which actually makes a difference, so why keep quite? i request everyone to speak up and stand for what is inside you. never let the inner voice of yours remain inside, let it be free and that is only possibe when u raise your voice, socialize, and be open...so go STAND FOR IT!
